Professional gaming has landed in New Zealand and this December eSports comes to life on your TV!

It’s League of Legends, the platform for the inaugural MyRepublic NZGC eSports tournament on SKY.

League of Legends is the world’s biggest online gaming franchise with over 67 million players competing per month. Globally, eSports is a genuine ‘monster’ with TV channels and media outlets world-wide embracing the High-Definition living room experiences and excitement on offer.

The MyRepublic New Zealand Gaming Championship is bringing the competitive world of eSports live to SKY subscribers on a Gaming Pop-Up Channel on Saturday December 19th 2015. This NZ-first broadcast event will break new ground introducing sports fans of all ages to one of the world’s mega-trends.

“For the uninitiated, think Lord of the Rings meets Paintball at the Darts” says NZGC president Dan Wrightson. “It’s fast, strategic and in your face action unlike any sports event seen on SKY before. The NZ gaming community is spawning its own local superstars and the My Republic NZGC gives them a stage to showcase how good they are, and how incredible eSports is to watch and play.”

“MyRepublic is excited to support the introduction of eSports into New Zealand” says MyRepublic  Managing Director Vaughan Baker. “Supporting gaming has always been in our DNA, MyRepublic offers the ultimate gaming fibre broadband experience. We are really excited to see our passion come to life in this landmark eSports event”. MyRepublic will be hosting viewing parties of the finales in major cities across the country, with locations and times being announced early December.

High energy Shout casters (commentators), expert panelists, ‘How-to’ demonstrations, HD graphics and gameplay with a pumped-up studio audience will create an absolutely unique event

Five of the country’s top teams have been invited to compete, with an online Wild-Card tournament streaming live on December 6th providing a shot for all-comers to win entry and play for the first-ever MyRepublic NZGC Trophy.
